I Killed My Own Website

By the time I’ve been asked a third time for my “Linktree replacement” code, I realized I should probably rip out my own website and share it with everyone.
My personal website was actually two different neglected systems wearing one domain name. One was a full account on my home server, complete with its own mail server and database, that hadn't served real traffic in months. The other was a live container on a Hetzner box, quietly emailing me my own Substack revenue numbers every morning through a cron job I'd forgotten I wrote.
So I killed both. The server account, the mail server, the cron job, the year-old blog posts nobody was reading, all of it gone. All backed up of course, because nothing irritates me more than getting phone calls about recovering files for family members without backups.
What replaced it is one HTML file. No login, no database, no monthly bill. It sends people to the four things I actually want them to see and nothing else.

The build took about an hour, and most of that was archiving instead of building. I liked the result enough to put the template on GitHub for free. If you want the same setup, steal it here.
